Ice Ice Baby

And I'm back. I guess I really don't have as much to talk about as I thought I did!

Planning has kind of come to a halt these days. The only thing we have worked on is the guest list and boy is that overwhelming. Is it too late to elope? :)

Mikey had a birthday yesterday... He is 24! Man- what an old man!
However the snow and ice in Memphis decided to change my plans to go see him. Therefore- next weekend will be his birthday weekend celebration! A little late, but will still be F-U-N a week later!

So today Mom and I went out and about because we had cabin fever from all of the ice that kept us locked up. #1 on our agenda was to eat lunch... well this is how it went down:  We walk into Mellow Mushroom and obviously everyone else in the greater Memphis area had the same idea we did so that was a no go. Next, it was on to Huey's- weeeell their power had just gone out. Moving on to Bogie's Deli- CLOSED. And finally we ended up at Red Robin and their power had JUST come back on so we had a bit of a wait for their computer system to get into gear, but the good news was- we ATE! Hallelujah!

FYI... We also went and saw "When In Rome" today. It was so cute. I highly recommend it!

I did get one wedding-ish thing accomplished today. We went to Swoozies (and ran into Lauren & Lauren) and ordered some embossed notecards for thank you notes. That's a step in the right direction right??

Until next time. Goodbye Blog World!

Duff

So I did my best to get Duff to do our wedding cake. Here is how it went down:

We were standing in line (with our VIP passes - thank you very much Mrs. Sheri!) and I realize that I had a save the date card in my purse. Well *ding* an idea pops in my head... We get up to Duff and he says hello and asks for my name and starts to autograph my book. Meanwhile... I pull out my save the date card (might I add- with my address on the back) and say to him "I have something for you... we're getting married June 12th and if you need to do a little pro bono work this year, we are here for ya!" He just laughed and the lady that was handing him the books said "Oh goodness". To which Michael and I are thinking... hey lady- is your name Duff? Even if you wanted to give us a free cake we wouldn't take it. We want Duff's!

So anyways we went on to have a good convo with him (and he mentioned our convo on stage- not about the cake... just about my wisdom) and then we took quite the family photo! Michael looks like a gargantuan next to us! So besides that we had a grand ole time! And he was SUPER nice and hilarious of course!

Tonight we are checking photographer off the list. We are going to be using JoLaura Bell with JoLaura Bell Photography. She did Kristina and Matt's wedding and their photos were beautiful. I can't wait!!

This weekend we are going to try and nail down food! The cake tasting will have to wait until Michael comes in town again, but I assure you it will be FUN! Unless of course Duff calls me up- I have a good feeling about this :)

Ok blog world. Lunch break is over so it's off to work I go!

Until next time...

Here we go again...

So we've been doing a lot of planning since my last post. And by a lot, I mean A LOT.

We met with the seamstress and I can't WAIT to have my first fitting! Unfortunately that isn't until March, but I guess I can look at it with the viewpoint that my "Project Wedding Body" will have been in full force by then. However at the rate I'm going, I won't have changed by then... I'll have motivation one of these days :)

I did get my weight-loss plan from Jillian Michael's today. However I thought it was going to be something like a "Oh so you want to tone your body?... This is your weight?... This is your goal weight?... This is your level of activity?... Then you should be doing this, this, and this..." Nope. I was wrong. You have to pay $4.00 a week probably to get talked down to by a general email Jillian Michaels sends out to all her $4.00 a week subscribers. No Thankyou. I'll just keep watching her on The Biggest Loser.

We also met with our florist this week. My flowers are going to be beautiful!!! Here is our inspiration:

Yes please!

We talked flowers and wedding for 4 hours at McAlister's. We got a lot accomplished. There are so many details that we hadn't even thought about yet. It's good to have a friend that is a florist and knows all there is to know about wedding planning!

So far on the checklist, here is what we have accomplished:
  • Officiant
  • Attendants
  • Ceremony site
  • Reception site
  • Videographer
  • Flowers
  • My dress
  • The bridesmaid's dresses
The major things we gotta get going on would be food, cakes, photography, suits, and the list goes on and on....

But on a lighter note- Michael and I are meeting Duff from Ace of Cakes this weekend at the Southern Home Garden & Gourmet Expo!

I'm pretty sure when I tell him we're getting married June 12th, he will volunteer to do our cake pro bono. I have high hopes! :)

So until next time...

Sick & Planning

No not sick OF planning. Sick AND Planning. I have had a sinus infection trying to get me all week and it finally kept me in bed today. I'm just glad I didn't have to get a shot in my bottom! :)

So how will I be productive in bed with my little furball, Knox, next to me? I will do a little more wedding planning! Oh the joys of having a laptop.

We met with a family friend on New Year's Day at her house to nail down our venue. Her home is BEAUTIFUL! It is an old farm house and has so much character. The second floor has the original wood flooring and it is gorgeous!

We will have the ceremony in the front and the reception in the back. Just imagine how green the grass and plants will be in June! It will be absolutely beautiful. I can't wait!

This weekend we are meeting with the seamstress who is going to customize my mom's wedding dress for me. Sorry folks but no pictures of that will be coming!

Now it's to nail down what the bridesmaids and groomsmen will wear. We've got ideas, but it's time to get on the ball. This long distance engagement makes wedding planning a little challenging. Michael will have a fun filled wedding planning weekend next time he comes in town!

But as for tomorrow Michael will be crying because the Tigers WILL beat Southern Miss.
It may be in Hattiesburg this time but the Tigers will dominate!

Hopefully I will be feeling better by next week. I was supposed to start my "Project Wedding Body" workout this week but the illness got in the way. We shall see what next week holds. Any Personal Trainers want to work Pro-Bono?! It will go to a good cause!

Ok blog world Knox and I are going to take our meds and get some much needed rest.

Gettin' Hitched

So here I am. My first blog. We'll see how this turns out. :)

Michael and I got engaged December 23rd of 2009.

What had happened was....

Mom deemed it "Family Night" because Drew was in from Chicago and it was the only time we could all be together without other activities going on. The original plan was go to Zoo Lights. Well the rain had different plans- Mom said instead we would go downtown and eat and go see all the decorations in the Peabody.

#1 The night before Drew got mad at me because he hadn't "heard that Michael and I were serious enough to talk about marriage."

#2 When I got home from work my loving brother Drew told me how crappy I looked and that I needed to change, fix my makeup, and my hair because he wanted to take pictures tonight and he didn't want me to ruin them.

When the entire Nixon clan arrived at the Peabody, we walked around and la-di-da. Mom decided she wanted to go to the 2nd floor to look at the tree up there. So we get upstairs and there are all the tables set up for what looked like a banquet. So I naturally say "Mom are we supposed to be up here?" To which she says "Amanda there isn't food in it. Does it look like there are people up here?"

I think Mom is crazy and we keep following. We get close to the tree and BAM!Michael pops out from behind the tree. Instant confusion begins. I didn't understand what Michael was doing in Memphis so I stared for a bit and then I see Mrs. Sheri with her camera and then I see Curtis and then I look at my family and then I look at Michael again and he was down on his knee saying "Will you marry me?" Only I didn't hear it just saw his lips move. (I think it was one of those shock/daze moments) So I sat there longer and then said "YEA!"

So there we are. He did so good! I was COMPLETELY surprised!!!

Now begins the wedding planning... I have a feeling that is what this blog will revolve around for quite some time!
